pt. 27 - We've met a delightful man, Leroy Lutz (a retired sheriff and retired oil field worker) , at the Blacktail Dam! Today he took us on a guided tour of the area. First stop was the Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site.
Then we were off to the oil fields! Leroy's perseverance enabled us to find a well that was in the process of being drilled. The men had a guided tour of the rig. It is amazing how the North Dakota farmers have MANY oil rigs right out in the middle of their fields. These wells are evidently a million plus dollars to drill! The rigs are gigantic compared to our water well drilling rigs in Oregon. It was a fascinating day!!! Thanks Leroy.
