March and April 2008 - Nevada Adventures
After attending the Las Vegas Trade Show, we enjoyed three weeks in Pahrump. Note the neighbor's motorhome! Look like any motorhome you've seen before? Yes, we have a very similar home to our new friends from Canada. The coincidence is that we learned we have mutal friends! What a small world. Also, note the solar lights. This is our new business product since our fire extinguishers are no longer being manufactured.

The sunsets to the west...just a short distance to California...can be gorgeous! .

We did take a day trip over to Death Valley. Wow...what an eye opener at the diesel pump when we passed through Shoshone, which is just over the CA border. Fortunately we were driving the truck (takes gas not diesel) and the tank was already full!

Did you know that prior to the last ice age, Death Valley was filled with the fresh water Lake Manly? Could Ken be imaging how if felt to be catching "the big one"...that is a prehistoric fish a few million years ago?

Actually our intent for the trip was to see the spring wild flowers. They were limited but the few blossoms that were peaking through were exquisite.

Upon coming north, we ventured to Virginia City. It is amazing how many people we know seem to find us! Hmmm...suppose the boat has anything to do with that? Of course we get lots of chuckles as who has a boat in the desert? We just grin too and inform the hecklers that this is how we find our vehicle in the mall parking lot! (Hey...that's the truth!)

As we are now in central western Nevada at Hawthorne, we have taken several trips to see the sights. The beauty of the White Mountains just to the west in California is spectacular.

Today our excursion took us to several dead ends! That is because the first route (in the middle of nowhere) ended with a huge rock that had tumbled down the hill blocking our pathway. Upon retracing our route, we ventured on and found another mountain route. This one led us up and up and up...somewhere around the 8200' level! Right at the summit we rounded a corner to discover that the route down was snow laden. Again...turn around...and do something Ken greatly dislikes doing! That is to go home the same way we came. Unfortunately that was the only logical route. That's the story of our "retirement daze"...always looking for new adventures.
