2017 Summer Adventures

A fishing excursion while camping at Holcomb RV Park in Richland, OR with Dave & Tillie was a great start to the summer.  We fished primarily in the Smith's boat and greatly enjoyed the boat's amenities. Of course the best part was the friendship shared!  Our best "catching" was actually along an inlet off the main channel of the Snake River.

The perch were a nice size and will provide many delicious meals for the coming months.

A terrific surprise arrived when our friend (and former renter) Joe stopped by the La Grande farm.  We so enjoyed his visit!!

Our next excursion started with a night boondocking along the Columbia River.  A windy evening was appreciated by the wind surfers that frequent this location.

A luncheon celebrating Aunt June's 91st birthday with the Koenig family and her niece was very delightful.  June is living in a home in the Clackamas/Milwaukie area that is literally within a very short distance of the school where she and I worked back in 1968-69.  She is a very special lady that truly changed my life!

Dinner with Lynn and Joe was another fun evening.  Lynn and I go way back...met in the 2nd grade...and Joe came to our school probably in the 4th grade.   Now that means we all have lots of history!

 Ken and I always remember our first visit to Lynn and Joe's Portland home.  There is a 14% grade to their neighborhood located on the hilly SE side of Portland.  Driving our RV up there when we were newbie motor home owners was a memorable experience!!!

A picnic at Hammerle Park in West Linn was absolutely fun too!  The gathering included friend Nancy, grandson Justin, the Detrick family, the Jon Parsons family,  Melissa and Mike's family, and Mary + children.  I think there were about 25 of us!

The many children present had a super time in the water fountains and on the extensive play equipment....definitely a fantastic location for childhood fun!

We were delighted that the Parsons drove clear over from Prosser!

This picnic was an opportunity for the Detrick family and the Lowry families to re-connect.  (Generation 2 had many fun times growing up when vacationing at the Detrick beach condo near Newport.)  Indeed the three generations present gave an opportunity to meet all the youngest as well as catch up. 

After leaving Portland we ventured on to the beauty of Washington's coast for a week at Ocean Shores, WA.  The McClinton and Hurst families were here too during the first days.

We parked our motorhome at the Price's summer home.  They returned from their month long Alaskan trip so the second part of our stay was a great opportunity for them to further acquaint us with their ocean community.

July 3rd on Ken's #?? birthday his sister Terry baked a super delicious rhubarb pie...Ken's very favorite!

We saw LOTS of "residents" in this community...the 4 legged type.  The little fawns were so precious too.  It is amazing that they are not afraid of the cars or people that are living in the area.

After a couple days in the Olympia area (and a delightful salmon dinner with the McClintons) we ventured on north to the Seattle area.  Oh my goodness...the traffic on these freeways is "yikes"!

Daughter Mary's family was in Washington for a summer wedding of Mary's friend.  Ken and I parked our RV on our friend's sod farm in the Woodinville area.  We enjoyed the opportunity to see Mary and her children.  Mary, Dalin and Joanne visited our very FAVORITE nursery!

We also enjoyed the opportunity to meet niece Teresa in Duvall, WA on Sat. afternoon.  When we only get glimpses of each other probably just once a year, it is a cherished event!

On Sunday morning we had great early morning entertainment.  We were told hot air balloons sometimes land here.  Two came in and landed right in front of our motorhome about 7:30 a.m.!

Then...they all sipped champagne celebrating their journey and a safe landing.

A visit to Ken's Uncle Cyrus (R) and Aunt Rigmor (L) at their Senior Living Center was most enjoyable.  Ken brought photos passed on from his father that brought a myriad of memories to Cyrus!  He reminisced about his childhood, early logging experiences/truck crash, fishing in Alaska/surviving 100+ mph winds, etc.  This was a couple hours we will always cherish!
