"Last Leg" of 2007-2008 Excursion
Pamlico & Rye Patch, NV & Chickahominy Reservoir, OR

SE of Hawthorne is a fascinating historical mining area called Pamlico. We joined other friends from our Escapee's Prospecting & Metal Detecting group for an outing. This photo gives a view of the general area. We can always be spotted with that "portabote" atop our truck!

The six couples of our group camped within a few miles of where we searched for that illusive "gold".

Of course some delicious shared meals were one of the enjoyable events of the day. "Great spaghetti" chef Rich!

An evening campfire warmed the social times once the sun started setting!

After a week, the group moved north to Mill City and the metal detecting area around Ryepatch. While the men worked on a project at John & Peggy's home, a local expert miner, Dick, led all the ladies on a metal detecting day out. Thanks to Dick's expertise in selecting a spot and some shared wisdom, everyone found gold!

One day the ladies had a fun day in Winnemucca checking out the local antique stores and shopping! Here Gay & Joanne await the other shoppers.

It has been 8 months since we left our home state! Oregon...here we come. The Steins Mountains were just over the border as we entered our state just north of Denio, NV. This was a new route for us.

We bought fishing licenses in Hines just outside of Burns and headed for Chickahominy to the west. Our little boat was only in the water 10 minutes until we had our first catch of the day! The weather the first three days has been sunny, snowy, windy, sleety! One can hardly predict ten minutes ahead.

May 2008 arrived today and also thankfully the sunshine! It was a very successful day on the water as you can tell from Ken's grin! We'll be here a few days and then head for home in La Grande!
