June 2018 Fishing Expeditions

Weather in the NW dictated much of our schedule this summer.  When it is rainy and windy we stayed in La Grande.  This gorgeous June sunset looked like the sky over Mt. Emily was ablaze!  Fortunately it was just a beautiful vivid sunset.

Our annual trip to Richland, the Powder River arm, and the Snake River was one we always anticipate.

The crappie this year were NOT plentiful but were the largest we have ever caught!  Our friends Rich and Peggy joined us at Holcomb RV Park for a couple days.

The day we returned to La Grande we took a spectacular drive south toward Huntington.  The views of the Snake River were absolutely breathtaking.   The route we selected over the mountain back roads obviously had very few travelers.

Our second June excursion was to Phillips Reservoir when we stayed in the RV Park for 9 nights.  Here the perch were both plentiful and larger than we had caught in former years.  We actually fished five of the days we were there.  Our total fish count was 283 fish.  Now that is A LOT of FILLETING!  We will look forward to fish frys this coming fall and winter.

When Ken had a 19"  trout on the hook it was totally different experience from landing a perch!

Rich and Peggy also joined us at the Union Creek Campground for a few days.  We took an excursion to see the renovated Gold Dredge in Sumpter.  This is an amazing place...one worth checking out if you are in the area!

We also went on a drive up Cracker Creek to view historical areas (The Chinese Wall) and other interesting sites from former centuries.
