From Mobile, AL into Mississippi

Our route took us northwest through Mobile, AL. We viewed the extensive shipyards and the USS Alabama in the bay.

After entering Mississippi, we passed Biloxi and then went through Pass Christian on our way to The Bay of St. Louis. Well...surprise! The map showed a bridge which we discovered is no longer present...wiped out by Katrina! Thus, we took another 30 mile detour to get to our destination. In so doing, we saw the landscape right on the gulf that is absolutely devastated. Block after block after block were just the concrete foundations.

Though much of the debris is cleared, there are still mutilated street lights and vegetation that shows the blast of Hurricane Katrina.
Construction is evident in many areas. Frequently we saw shell's of homes like this one that are being rebuilt. There are many, many RV's adjacent to the devastated homes and those homes under construction so it is obvious that many families will stay in the area.
