Slidell, LA - Volunteering with Presbyterian Diaster Relief

We arrived in Slidell today and are parked at the Central Baptist Church. There is a large lot here that is filled with RV's. The residents are primarily volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. After getting parked, the coordinator of the Presbyterian Disaster Relief volunteers, Kevin, came over and led us to our project house. A group from a congregation in Illinois is also working at this house. It belongs to an elderly woman who was raised in this house and has lived here all her life. When the waters of Lake Pontchartrain rose after the levy broke, there was 8 feet of water inside...a total disaster! The Presbyterian volunteers kept the roof and one wall...all else has been replaced! Our role is working on the floor. Ken is laying the wonderboard that will go under the tile. Joanne is screwing the board down. To be very honest...it's been a long day and we are really pooped tonight!
