August 2008 Alaskan Cruise
Here is a brief photo summary of our recent cruise. We boarded the Royal Caribbean Rhapsody of the Seas in Seattle on Aug. 22.

Among the first events on board are finding our Muster Station and practicing the emergency drills. We enjoyed a really fun week with friends Ron, Barbara, Don, and Elaine.

Viewing the Seattle harbor and city from the water provides gorgeous sites!

We had second seating for dinner...8:30 p.m....in the dining room. Formal attire for two of the dinners gave us opportunity to get out of our casual "rut".

In Juneau, we rented a car and drove to the Mendenhall Glacier, just a short distance from town.

The ship docked in Skagway so we had an opportunity to get rid of our "sea legs" and do some shopping in this quaint little town.

The ship went up the Tracy Arm Fjord so we had a really up-close and personal encounter with this glacier. You'll note (bottom left corner) the small boat that left our cruise liner to lasso some glacier ice. They brought the ice back onboard for some creative ice carving. There were many ice clumps floating about, some of which were bright blue in color and floating about in this cold "glacier" green water.

Though it was a rainy, windy, chilly week, there were pools for relaxation in two different areas. In the Solarium were warm pools and hot tubs with an Egyptian theme.

The last time we went ashore was in Prince Rupert, Canada. The rainy weather cut short our land excursion as we scurry back to the ship for more pampering by the excellent staff. Indeed, we were well fed and entertained! As first time cruisers, we had a very pleasant week!

One of the most impressive features of the trip was visible in the cruise-liner itself. This photo is taken from the 10th floor in the Centrum...center of the ship. Note the balconies all the way to the 4th floor! We were impressed!
