Heading South Fall 2014

We left La Grande the first of Sept. and headed for Rabbit Hole, NV for several weeks of participating in our hobby of gold prospecting.  We drove the motor home out to the claim, which is about 60 miles from the freeway.  We parked our RV across the road from the area we worked for about three weeks.  Each day was an adventure...one never knows what surprise "glitter" will be panned out at the end of the day!  We always had color but definitely wouldn't want to depend on this hobby for a living.  

Most days were gorgeous...nice fall sunshine.  Of course it was very quiet in this remote area.  Some days only 1 or 2 cars passed by.  During Sept. California was struck with some major forest fires.  On a couple days this photo gives you perspective of the sky!  The sun was red, the sky brown, and aroma was strong!  Fortunately the wind changed soon.

Weather does impact life!  A couple days we were drenched with much needed rain in this desert area.  This photo gives perspective of our dry washing holes.  Obviously we were done for the season!  Driving the motor home out proved to be a bit of a challenge.  We discovered that the north route had a road wash out.  The south route had some soft spots but we safely exited this mountain playground.

We headed south through Fernley and Hawthorne to Pahrump where we are spending time at the Wine Ridge RV Park.  Note this sign...the park is on Winery Rd.  A crossroad going up the hill helps us feel right at home :-).  

The RV Park is next door to an actual winery.  This weekend was the annual "wine stomp" so the park was full of visitors from all over the region.  The celebration included extensive wine tasting, craft sales, and music.

Adjacent to our parking area was a new larger pool and hot tub as well as bathing and laundry facilities.  We would give this park excellent ratings  and recommend it to our friends.  While in Pahrump we have enjoyed visits and dining with other P&MD friends who live in the area, Peggy and Elaine.

We've been coming here for about 10 years but there are changes as the park is under new management.  Among the new amenities are cottages so those without an RV can also enjoy  the facilities.
