January February 2009
We welcomed in the new year at Valle Del Oro RV Resort in Mesa where we stayed until Jan. 15.

The annual trek to Quartzsite was enjoyed by all. We camped in the desert with the Escapee's Boomers. Here our friend Mary and other Boomers are getting those hot dogs grilled to perfection!

Our friend Gene joined us for several days in Quartzsite. His chocolate chip cookies were winners!

From Q we proceeded to Yuma where we enjoyed visits with many friends and family. Here Terry (Ken's sister) and Dard entertain us at their home in the Foothills.

The next stop was Florence, AZ where we met with many other Washington State Patrol retirees and their spouses. A delicious barbecue and lots of conversation was enjoyed by all.

The next journey was up the canyon toward Globe as we proceeded to Lake Roosevelt.

From the huge rocks of the canyon one proceeds to the hills covered with the Arizona saguaro cactus. Yes...this is the Tonto National Forest!
The following are some photos of this beautiful lake. We are currently camped in Windy Hill Campground on the west side of the lake. There are about 1500 very nice camp sites in the multiple campgrounds. We believe these are the nicest national forest campgrounds we've seen anywhere in our travels!

Behind Joanne to the left is our motorhome in the Coyote Loop of the Campground. Our neighbor is from Baker City and the camp host is from Damascus. Oregon and Washington campers are definitely enjoying the sunshine of Lake Roosevelt in February!
Lake Roosevelt is 100% full. This means there is more water in the lake than has ever been present. This also means that our campground has a significant area UNDER WATER. Note that we are fishing where there use to be a light pole, camp sites, etc.

Though the fishing was slow, Ken is winning the family fishing contest as he has caught several bass.

The entry to our campground was guarded by these guys! Now who is going to argue with them...better follow the speed limits :).
