Texas Travels - Feb. 2007
We arrived in Livingston, TX yesterday at the Escapees RV Park.
Today we took a day trip in the truck to College Station, TX for a visit to Texas A&M University. It is quite interesting how university people stand out in a community! Whether in the bank or at a restaurant, we could pick them out.

We've enjoyed visiting the Presidential Libraries and Museums as we've traveled this year. The George Bush Library & Museum at Texas A&M was most interesting. His important contributions for men and women with disabilities, environmental issues, volunteering in communities, the importance of reading proficiency, and international peace keeping issues were detailed.

The magnificent statue that is in the courtyard is the same as one will find in Berlin at the site of the former iron curtain. The elimination of the wall was significant in both the Reagan and Bush presidencies. We saw actual parts of the wall at both Reagan's Library in Simi Valley, CA last spring and now here in Texas today.

One of the fun interactive features was receiving a "personal" letter from the former president or first lady. One could ask a question. Mine was, "Is there a quotation that best expresses your outlook on life?" The response was a quotation from Edward Everett Hale, chaplain of the US Senate and author of the book The Man Without A Country:
"Look up, and not down;
Look out, and not in;
Look forward, not back;
And lend a hand."
We returned to Livingston tonight to be awed by the beauty of this Texan sunset!
