New Mexico Adventures
We enjoyed visiting The Ranch (Escapees Park) in Lakewood, NM. Upon leaving, our route took us by the Carlsbad Caverns National Park.

Discovered by a teenager around the turn of the twentieth century, this magnificent and enormous landmark is indeed spectacular. We rode the elevator down 750' to the big room entrance. (The "more fit" took the stairs.)

Our camera doesn't do justice as the low light and our little camera made it impossible to take photos showing the massiveness of the caverns. Many 747 airplanes would fit inside...if that gives you some perspective. Extensive information is provided to understand both the history of the area as well as the geology.

As we proceeded down the road back into Texas and then across New Mexico (following a visit with friend Gavin Lewis in Santa Teresa), this is typical scene...road that stretches for miles and miles and miles between lots of open spaces!
